Recognizing that ship surveys are vital to navigational safety, major maritime nations have established their own classification societies to ensure strict enforcement of survey standards. To \npromote the growth of Taiwan\u2019s shipping industry, insurance companies, shipyards, and shipowners in these fields founded CCRS, a juridical association, on February 15, 1951. This society \ncarried out classification surveys and operated under the joint supervision of the Ministry of the Interior (MOI) and the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC).<\/p>\n

In 1976, in accordance with Article 16 of the \u201cRegulations for the Supervision of Classification Societies,\u201d the domestic classification society shall be a juridical person under the supervision of MOTC. Based on this, 31 entities from the shipping and insurance sectors pledged funds. The first Endowers\u2019 Meeting was held on March 20, 1978, where the Articles of Endowment were approved and directors and supervisors were elected. This marked the official founding of CR. Following MOTC\u2019s approval, CR officially took over the ship survey duties from CCRS on July 1, 1978.<\/p>\n

On May 2, 2014, to provide more comprehensive and international services, the English name was designated as CR Classification Society. CR operates as a non-profit public-endowed foundation under the Foundation Act. It is a technical service institution dedicated to providing excellent expertise, high efficiency, and enthusiastic service. With operational bases located in major ports around the world, CR offers shipowners, shipbuilders, and equipment manufacturers convenient and professional services.<\/p>\n

CR\u2019s quality policy is to provide the best service, promote the safety of life at sea, and prevent pollution to the marine environment. To achieve this mission, CR established a Quality Management System (QMS) based on ISO 9001, certified by the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs on November 10, 1995. Furthermore, CR is recognized by MOTC for complying with the IMO Resolution MSC.349(92), \"Code for Recognized Organizations (RO Code).\" To meet customer needs and expectations, CR continuously strengthens its management practices to maintain an effective QMS in a dynamic environment.<\/p>\n
